CHECKLIST
Read the Grade 1 criteria for Unit 8.1 Environmental Tourists. Have you completed?
- 1. Spreadsheet (Go Green Sample Data) showing Average, Minimum and maximum values. Are the formulas efficient and accurate?
- 2. At least ONE chart, showing either temperatures or light levels.
PRINTING
BEFORE printing always check your work using PRINT PREVIEW.
- 1. Print your Go Green Sample Data spreadsheet. Send it to the KC2 MONO printer. Have you added your NAME to the header?
- 2. Print ONE your Charts. Send it to the KC2 MONO printer. Have you added your NAME to the header?
Task 3 The Slide Master.
The slide master allows you to set styles, fonts and a background that will appear on every slide in your presentation.
- 1. To go to the slide master, choose View / Master / Slide Master.
- 2. To return to your presentation, choose View / Normal.
- 3. Decide what font, size, style and colour you want to use at each level. Select each level to change individual styles or choose the font you want to use for all text in that box.
If you place a place a background image on the slide master, the file size will be smaller. This is important if you are going to use the presentation on the Internet.
- 1. Choose Insert / Picture / From File and find a suitable image, or Copy and Paste an image onto the slide. Resize the image to fit.
- 2. Right-click on the picture and choose Order / Send to back to bring the master text boxes into view again.
To add the date and time to each slide;
- 1. Choose View / Header and Footer. In the Date and time section, click on Update automatically, then choose the format you want from the drop down menu.
- 2. Click Apply to All. The correct date and time will now appear at the bottom left-hand side of each slide.
Task 4 Continue Designing Your Presentation.
- Continue designing your own presentation, using the slide master to set styles and background.
- Choose File / Save As and save your presentation into your.
- Call the presentation Holiday Presentation.
TEST YOURSELF
Read the brief at the top of the page again. Work in pairs. On your white boards jot down whether or not your partner’s presentation has included all of the “must haves“. Have they included any “could haves“?

WEEK 5 – 29th September
8.1 Lesson 5 Environmental Tourist: Adding Content to a Presentation.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
In today’s lesson you will learn how to;
- Learn how to add a web query to a presentation.
- Save a presentation as a web page.
Starter: Green Tourism
Open the Green Tourism Research work sheet (Reso4c).
Save this into your Unit 8.1 Environmental Tourist folder.
Add your NAME to the name dialogue box
Call the worksheet Green Tourism Research.
Find out at least one fact about each of the issues listed, and one solution to help limit the problem. You should also cite your source (where you found the information).
Task 1 Adding Green Tourism to Your Presentation.
Work in pairs. On your white boards jot down using your Green Tourism Research and key words or phrases, ten bullet points – five facts about how tourism can harm the environment and five “what we can do” solution points.
- 1. Open your saved Go Green Holiday Presentation.
- 2. Add your five facts about how tourism can harm the environment to one slide.
- 3. Add your five “what we can do” solution points to another slide.
Task 2 Adding a Web Query to Your Presentation.
- 1. Find and open your web query spreadsheet that you created in lesson 3. It is called webquery_1. It should be in your Unit 8.1 Environmental Tourist folder.
- 2. Select all of the cells in the table by clicking and dragging on them.
- 3. Choose Edit / Paste Special.
- 4. In the dialogue box that opens, select Paste, then choose Microsoft Office Excel Worksheet Object.
- 5. Click OK.
The table will be placed in your presentation as an editable and updateable spreadsheet.
The table make not be very readable, as it will not have a background colour.
- 6. Click on the object to select it, and then choose Fill Colour. Select a contrasting colour to the background.
- 7. Enlarge the object if necessary by clicking and dragging on its handles.
- 8. To edit a spreadsheet object in a presentation double-click on it.
You want the spreadsheet to update so that it shows the most current weather information.
- 9. Double-click on your spreadsheet object to make it active.
- 10. Use the mouse to select all of the data.
- 11. Right-click on the selected data and choose Data Range Properties.
- 12. Set the Refresh Control to refresh at the interval of your choice.
- 13. Save your presentation as GoGreen_Presentation_1.
Task 3 Saving Your Presentation as a Web Page.
Once your have completed your presentation and added all the content, you can save it as a web page.
Choose File / Save as Web Page.
Call your presentation GoGreen_Presentation_Web.
When you open your folder, you will see that it has saved a folder and a web page.
Click on the web page and your presentation will open in your web browser.
You should be able to navigate through the presentation using the menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
TEST YOURSELF
I will open Millionaires or Weakest Links?, spreadsheet.
We are going to play a game called Millionaires or Weakest Links?, which revises many of the key terms in this unit.
The class will be divided into two teams, Team 1 and Team 2.
I am going to ask some questions.
One person from each team may answer (you may confer).
You should write your answer on a piece of paper and hand it to me.
If the answer is correct, I will fill the bottom square in their team’s grid in black.
If the answer is incorrect, I do not fill in a cell, and I will move onto the next question.
The winning team is either the team who reaches £1000,000 first, or has the highest black column by the end of the game.
EXTENSION WORK
Open your presentation in note page view, choose View / Note Pages.
Add comments in the notes section to explain what is included on the slide.
Add your name to the note page footer, choose View / Header and Footer / Note Pages and Handout and type your name into the footer.
Print your presentation as note pages, choose File / Print / Note Pages. Make sure you send it to the KC2mono printer.
