<p><strong>Starter</strong>: What do you know about spreadsheets? Try this <a href="http://www.reviseict.co.uk/ks3/7.4/7_4_fling_modelling.shtml" target="_blank">QUIZ </a> to find out. </p>
<p><strong>Task C – Developing numbers</strong></p>
<p>1. From the website catalogue and the printed catalogues you have found, identify a selection of outfits which will be suitable for a teenager to attend a formal event. </p>
<p>2. In MS Excel, open a new spreadsheet and save it with a sensible name (e.g. “<strong>Cost of Formal Outfit for Teenager</strong>”) and put a suitable heading at the top (e.g. “<strong>Cost of Formal Outfit for Teenager</strong>”). </p>
<p>3. For each of your shops you need to list the items and their prices which you have chosen for the outfit (e.g. <strong>hat</strong> or other head wear, <strong>dress</strong>, suit or other suitable attire, <strong>footwear</strong>, <strong>outer clothing</strong> such as a coat, jacket if required, other <strong>accessories</strong> such as <strong>handbag</strong> or bouquet if required). </p>
<p>4. You will need to calculate;</p>
<ul>
<li>a total for each using <strong>=SUM</strong> </li>
<li>an average cost across the outlets using <strong>=AVERAGE</strong> </li>
<li>rank the total costs using <strong>=RANK</strong></li>
</ul>

<li>Either by copying or pasting from the internet or writing in your own words, in Word write a few short paragraphs about your Retail Outlets. Call this document <strong>Text Information about my Retail Outlets</strong>; add your <strong>NAME</strong>, <strong>FORM</strong> / <strong>GROUP</strong> and <strong>DATE</strong> to the <strong>header</strong> and <strong>PAGE</strong> <strong>NUMBERS</strong> to the <strong>footer.  </strong> Write this in plain text; don’t use headings or bullet points at this stage. </li>
<li>Print out your paragraphs and then annotate them to show which words you will change, how you will create headings, formatting you might apply and where you will insert bullet points etc. </li>

<p>By now, you should have decided which Clothing Outlets you are going to base your folded leaflet on and you have hopefully collected some printed information about the Shops. Today you are going to search the internet for information about your chosen Clothing Outlets.</p>
<p>HERE IS A REMINDER FOR TASK B which you are working on…</p>
<p>Task B – Searching the internet for information and developing your text</p>
<p>1. Using a search engine on the internet, search for retail clothing outlets. This should be a multiple criteria search so, for example, “Clothing” AND “Formal wear” AND “Shrewsbury” should be typed in. Using the advanced search option may help.</p>
<p>2. Take a screen shot of the search results page making sure that it includes evidence of your multiple criteria search. Add this screenshot to a word document. Name this document Internet Search Evidence for Activity 1, add your NAME, FORM / GROUP and DATE to the header and PAGE NUMBERS to the footer.</p>
<p>3. You are aiming to find out as much as you can about each shop so you might need to follow some of the links on your search page – take screen shots of various pages that will be useful and add these to your word document. Useful pages on websites might include; contact details, descriptions of the shop, catalogues</p>
<p>4. Print out your screenshots and along with the printed information from your shop (you may want to scan or photocopy this information), highlight the information that you think will be useful for your leaflet. You should highlight text, pictures and figures that you might use and write next to them why they will be useful.</p>

<p>Print preview your work BEFORE you print it.</p>
<p>Check that your NAME is in the header.</p>

<p><strong>Activity Brief 1: Retail Clothing Outlet Leaflet</strong><strong> </strong></p>
<p>Your job is to research different clothes shops in order to provide an outfit for a teenager who is going to attend a formal event.</p>
<p>You will be required to produce a folded information leaflet which provides details of at least four clothes shops in an area of your choice.  You will need to collect information about your chosen clothes shops and this information could be found on the internet, in a printed catalogue provided by the shop, written notes made by you in the shop or any combination of these sources.</p>
<p>Your leaflet should contain; contact details for each shop, a brief description of the type of clothing they provide, pictures which will have been amended and developed by you, maybe a map of the area highlighting the location of the shops, a selection of clothes from each shop which would provide an outfit for a teenager who is going to attend a formal event, the total cost of the outfit from each shop, the average cost of the outfit for the teenager, a total cost ranking for each shop with 1 being the cheapest and 4 being the most expensive.</p>
<p><strong>Tasks you need to complete for activity 1</strong></p>
<p><strong>Task A – Collecting printed information</strong></p>
<p>1. Visit your chosen shops and pick up their catalogues or make some written notes about clothes and how much they cost.  Remember you need at least four shops.  You might decide to focus on one type of outfit e.g. daywear (for a wedding, christening, garden party, fete) or evening wear (for a prom ball, “leavers” dinner or concert) or a selection of both types of clothes. </p>
<p><strong>Task B – Searching the internet for information and developing your text</strong></p>

<p>6. Print out your paragraphs and then annotate them to show which words you will change, how you will create headings, formatting you might apply and where you will insert bullet points etc.</p></div>

<p>During this year, you will work towards achieving your ICT Key Skills Level 2 qualification. There are two parts to your qualification.</p>

<p>Today you will take a past paper to give you an idea of the questions you will need to deal with and then we shall look at the requirements of the portfolio. When you complete the exam paper then have a look at the requirements of the portfolio.</p>
