11GCSE – Period 4: Tuesday 6th March

Activity 4: Evaluation

Once you have completed your Discovery Board and your review (make sure you have some quality feedback) then you need to move onto the last activty – Evaluation.

First of all, save a copy of the evaluation instructions from the CAB in your Controlled Assessment and read through them.

Evaluating your products

The first part of your Evaluation is focused on the products you have produced. It would be a good idea to start with the criteria for each product to see if you have met the requirements.  For example, from the CAB the criteria for the Logo was;

You must produce an original logo for the upcycling event.

Your logo must:

  • be one you have created yourself
  • represent upcycling

So it would be a good idea to copy and paste each set of criteria into your Evaluation and discuss how well you met the requirements.  Use the prompts in the evaluation instructions to help you as well but it would be good to talk about;

  • The strengths and weaknesses of each of your products
  • Any ways you think you can improve them

Using the example Evaluation

The example Evaluation is far too long – the useful bits have been highlighted.

11GCSE – Period 1: Monday 27th February

Controlled Assessment

Please continue with your discovery board designs and creation – scroll down for a reminder of how to get the best marks possible for your designs.

Reviews – make sure you are filling these in as you go this morning, get feedback from others.

11GCSE – Period 5: Thursday 23rd February

Getting the best marks possible for your designs;

From the mark scheme…

The student has used design tools to clearly show what each screen will be like and pathways through the product. They have commented on and justified important design decisions. (8-10 marks)

The important words that distinguish 8-10 marks from 5-7  marks are “…and justified important design decisions…”.  This means you must give reasons for design decisions as well as explaining what you are going to do.

For example;

The graphic on the rollover button to lead back to the main screen is the same tree that is the main feature on the home screen. (5-7 marks)

The graphic on the rollover button to lead back to the main screen is the same tree that is the main feature on the home screen. I chose to do this because I thought it would be obvious that the button led back to the main screen since the tree is the main focus on that particular page. (8-10 marks)

Make sure you create your designs before you create your storyboard!

If your designs are too slick or perfect or match your actual discovery board too precisely that indicates that you completed your designs retrospectively.  You will be marked down for this.
