Creating your poster (VERSION 2)
- Use a blank publication in MS Publisher for your poster.
- You have already created a first version which simply contains the basic information for your poster and avoided any formatting.
- Create a word document listing the improvements you will make to this first version. Call this document Poster Improvements. Save this into your Activity 2 folder. You can include examples and/or screenshots to illustrate teh points you make.
- If you have not already done so, then print out this first version in B & W to thte KC2mono printer.
- Make the changes to your poster and then print out a final version in B & W to the KC2mono printer.
- Check your poster for mistakes. If you find any simply highlight them, make the changes and then print again (this time in colour) to the SHR-library-colour.
Starter: What do you know about email? Try this quiz to find out.
Emailing your poster
- Attach your poster to an email and send this to a friend asking for their comments.
- Open a word document. Call it “Purposeful use of Email“. Save it into your Key Skill folder. Add your Name, Form, Group and Date to the header and Page Numbers to the footer. Take a screen shot of your email and paste it into the document. Write a sentence to explain what the screenshot shows. Print this document to the KC2mono printer.

TASK 1 Creating your poster (VERSION 1)
- Use a blank publication in PUBLISHER for your poster.
- Create a first version which simply contains the basic information for your poster, avoid any formatting at this point.
- Print out this first version in B & W and annotate to indicate how you will change the formatting of headings and maybe add tabs or tables to improve the presentation of your information.
- Identify how you will alter any pictures that you include. They will need to be developed in the same way as Activity 1.
- Make the changes to your poster and then print out a final version in B & W.
- Check your poster for mistakes. If you find any simply highlight them, make the changes and then print again (this time in colour).

Developing and Saving Images for your Poster
Task D – Developing Pictures
- 1. You need to include pictures in your poster and you can find these on the internet and / or scan them from your advertiding flyers. Before you include them in your poster you need to alter or develop them in some way. You will be shown how to do this in Photoshop Elements.
- 2. You should include before and after printouts showing your original picture, an explanation of what you have done and the developed picture.
Before you launch photoshop take a look at Mr Curtis’s screencasts. They start simply and then get a little harder!!!

Photoshop Elements Techniques
Launch Adobe Photoshop elements
Start / All Programs / Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0
Choose Edit and Enhance Photos
Add the navigator
Windows / Navigator. Grab the tab and move it above Layers (LEFT side of your screen).
Opening a Saved Picture in Photoshop Elements
Click HERE and watch the teaching video to open a saved picture.
Drawing Shapes in Photoshop Elements
Right click Shape Tool. Choose Custom Shape Tool. Choose a shape from the top toolbar e.g. SNOW FLAKE. Remember to choose a colour e.g. BLUE. Click and drag the shape onto the layer (your picture).
Adding text (This will be a new layer)
Right click Text Tool. Choose Horizontal Type Tool. Type in your text e.g. “MUNRO’S Scottish Takeaway”. Remember to choose a font type, size and colour from the top toolbar.
EXTENSION: With your text selected, choose Create Warped Text Tool from the top toolbar or choose Layer / Type / Warp Text. Choose a Style e.g. Arc and adjust it using the tools in the dialogue box. Click OK to apply the change.
NOTE: You can use the Move Tool to move, resize and rotate any element (layer)on your page e.g. SNOW FLAKE or the text “MUNRO’S Scottish Takeaway”.
