<p>PEAT were so happy with your last leaflet that they have asked you to produce another one for them. It’s a bit of a rush, because the design company who were going to create it have dropped out at the last minute. The new leaflet focuses on the <strong>humpback whale</strong>, another endangered animal.</p>
<p>This time PEAT need a <strong>2-page</strong> leaflet. Here is a quick reminder of what you should include:</p>
<ol>
<li>Snappy title</li>
<li>An eye-catching logo</li>
<li>A clear layout</li>
<li>Appropriate images</li>
<li>Appropriate text</li>
<li>A good balance of text and images</li>
<li>Effective colours</li>
<li>Date and issue number</li>
<li>Contact details (website address &#8211; <a href="http://www.peat.co.uk">www.peat.co.uk</a>)</li>
</ol>
<p>To help you, PEAT have provided a document with information and images about the humpback whale. It is called <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>Hump Backed Whales Images and Information (7b</strong></span>).  You should use this to help you produce your leaflet.</p>
<p>Save your work as <strong>Hump Backed Whales YOUR NAME</strong>. </p>
<p>The deadline to complete your work is in one hour’s time – so you had better work quickly!</p>
<h4>Starting your 2-page leaflet</h4>
<ol>
<li>Start Serif PagePlus</li>
<li>Choose Start New Publication</li>
<li>Scroll down and under Landscape choose A4</li>
<li>Now click on Layout Guides</li>
<li>Set all the margins to 1 cm</li>
<li>Change columns to 2</li>
<li>Set Col. Gap to 2 cm</li>
</ol>
<p>You can now begin to create your leaflet.  The right hand column is your front page and the left hand column is your back page.</p>
<p>Print your leaflet on the KC2mono printer when you have finished.</p>

<h4><span style="color:#000080;">Task 1 – Creating your company stationery</span></h4>
<ul>
<li>Create some headed paper – this should include your logo and Time Machine’s contact details (you can make these up) and maybe a border around the page.  </li>
<li>Create a compliment slip – a compliment slip is sometimes sent attached to a company brochure.  It should contain the logo, contact details and the words “with compliments”.  You should be able to fit about 3 compliment slips horizontally on an A4 page.  There should be a PagePlus template to help you with this.</li>
<li>Create some business cards – these should be for a particular individual in the company.  Again you can make up a name and a position (or use your name).  Include the logo, contact details and the name and position (Managing Director etc) of the employee.  There should be a business card template in PagePlus to help you with this.</li>
</ul>
<h4><span style="color:#000080;">Task 2: Printing your company stationery</span></h4>
<p>I will give you extra print credits so you can print these off in colour but they are not unlimited so make sure you check print preview before you print.</p>
<p>Please write your name on the back of your work and put it in your folder.</p>
<h4><span style="color:#000080;">Extenstion: Creating personal stationery</span></h4>
<p>Using one of the templates, create your own personal stationary;</p>
<ul>
<li>business cards – so you can easily share your address details with friends</li>
<li>compliment slips – perhaps you could attach these to work you hand in?</li>
<li>letterhead – if you need to write a letter</li>

<li>How did you get here? </li>
<li>What incentive can we offer that would persuade you to leave your car at home? </li>
</ul>
<p>(e) Most of the people surveyed used their car to travel to the New Forest.  They were asked what incentive would persuade them to leave their car at home on their next visit to the New Forest.  The choices were: </p>
<ul>
<li>discounts on cycle hire  (<strong>CYCLE</strong>)</li>
<li>vouchers for food and drink  (<strong>FOOD &amp; DRINK VOUCHERS</strong>)</li>
<li>reduced admission to attractions  (<strong>REDUCED ADMISSION</strong>)</li>
<li>free transport from bus/railway stations to their holiday accommodation. (<strong>FREE TRANSPORT</strong>).   </li>
</ul>

<p>Visit your chosen venue and collect some printed information about the venue and its presentations.  This could be in the form of a brochure, a leaflet, a newsletter or a flyer.  The more information the better.</p>
<h4>TASK 2 Developing Text for your poster. (<span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>Verity</strong></span>)</h4>
<p>Open <strong>Word</strong> and type in the title “<strong>Developing Text for the Poster</strong>“.  Add your <strong>NAME</strong> to the <strong>header</strong>.  <strong>Save</strong> this document into your <strong>Key Skills level 2 / Activity 2</strong> folder.  Type in <strong>two subtitles</strong> – <strong>BEFORE</strong> and <strong>AFTER</strong>.  Beneath the <strong>BEFORE</strong> subtitle <strong>copy</strong> some appropriate <strong>text</strong> about your venue or event from the internet.  <strong>Copy</strong> in the <strong>URL</strong> to acknowledge copyright of this material.  Beneath the <strong>AFTER</strong> subtitle <strong>reword</strong> the original text you found.  Use the <strong>thesaurus</strong> to help you to apply new adjectives and adverbs.  <strong>THIS TEXT MUST APPEAR ON YOUR FINAL POSTER!!!</strong></p>
<h4><strong>TASK 3 Creating the DRAFT version of your POSTER.  </strong></h4>

<h4>TASK 4 Purposeful Use of Email. </h4>

<p>Open <strong>Word</strong>.  Type in the <strong>title</strong> “<strong>Purposeful Use of Email</strong>“.  Add your <strong>name</strong> to the <strong>header</strong>.  <strong>Save</strong> this document into your <strong>Activity 2 POSTER</strong> folder. </p>
<p>Create an <strong>email</strong>.  <strong>Subject</strong> =  ”<strong>My Draft Poster</strong>“.  <strong>Attach</strong> your <strong>draft</strong> version of your <strong>poster</strong>.  <strong>Send to</strong> = Ask at least one, but preferably two, members of your class to suggest <strong>improvements</strong> for your poster.  <strong>BEFORE YOU SEND YOUR EMAIL</strong>, take a <strong>screenshot</strong> of its content. </p>
<p><strong>Paste</strong> this <strong>“SENT” email</strong> into your <strong>word document</strong>.  DO NOT REDUCE ITS SIZE because I need to read all of the elements!  Below the screenshot, <strong>comment</strong> on the purpose and content of the email. </p>
<p>When you receive an email from a classmate please make at least <strong>one sensible suggestion</strong> to improve their work and try to <strong>reply promptly</strong>.  e.g. Use photoshot to enhance your venue logo.  OR Try to reword your blurb about your event to make it sound move interesting. </p>
<p>When you receive your <strong>reply(ies),</strong> take a <strong>screenshot</strong> and <strong>paste</strong> it into your word document.  Again <strong>comment</strong> on the content of the reply(ies).  You on can comment on wether or not you plan to use the suggestion! </p>
<h4><strong>TASK 5 Creating the FINAL version of your POSTER.  </strong></h4>
<p>Open <strong>Publisher</strong> or if you prefer it <strong>PagePlus</strong>.  You need a <strong>ONE page A4 portrait</strong> or <strong>landscape</strong> document.  Add your <strong>name</strong> to the <strong>footer</strong>.  <strong>Save</strong> this document as <strong>FINAL POSTER</strong> into your <strong>Activity 2 Poster</strong> folder.  This should be in your <strong>Key Skills Level 2</strong> Folder. </p>

<h4>TASK 1 Finishing your Digital Poster</h4>
<p>Your digital poster should contain:</p>

<p>Yoy will need an appropriate <strong>image</strong> and some <strong>brief text</strong> to promote each of your chosen &#8220;experiences&#8221;. </p>
<h4>TASK 2 Setting your Digital Poster up as a Kiosk Presentation. </h4>
<p>From the <strong>Slide Show</strong> menu choose <strong>Set Up Slide Show</strong>.  Tick the &#8220;<strong>Loop continuously until Esc</strong>&#8221; option and then click <strong>OK</strong>. </p>
<p>Make sure that you <strong>rehearse your timings</strong>!!!  From the <strong>Slide Show</strong> menu, choose <strong>Rehearse Timings</strong>.  <strong>Read</strong> quietly and slowly through the text on each slide, manually using the <strong>mouse</strong> to move forward through your presentation.  Click on the <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>X</strong></span> to <strong>stop recording</strong>.  A dialogu box will appear .  If you are happy with your recording click on <strong>YES</strong>, otherwise click on <strong>NO</strong> and <strong>rerecord</strong> your show. </p>
<h4>TASK 3 Print Handouts of your Digital Poster. </h4>
<p>Ensure that your <strong>NAME</strong> is in the <strong>FOOTER</strong> of <strong>Notes and Handouts</strong>.  From the <strong>Insert</strong> menu choose <strong>Header and Footer</strong>.  Click on <strong>Notes and Handouts</strong>.  Tick the <strong>Footer</strong> and type in your <strong>NAME</strong>. </p>
<p>From the <strong>File</strong> menu choose <strong>Print</strong>.  Make sure that you print Handouts to the <strong>KC2mono</strong> printer.  <strong>CHANGE</strong> from <strong>Full Page Slides</strong> to <strong>Handouts &#8211; 3 Slides or 4 Slides</strong>. </p>
<h4>TASK 4 Saving your Digital Poster for marking. </h4>
<p>From the <strong>File</strong> menu choose <strong>Save As&#8230;</strong> and navigate to the <strong>General</strong> area.  Here is the path &#8211; <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>S:\General\ICT\Year 9\9X 2011 2012\9X TIME MACHINE\9X TIME MACHINE DIGITAL POSTER</strong></span>. <strong>Save</strong> your work into the <strong>9X Time Machine Digital Poster</strong> folder. </p>

<h4>Creating digital posters for Time Machine</h4>
<p>Digital posters can be found on the London Underground</p>
<p><a href="http://youtu.be/kCh2d6fCbKI" target="_blank">HERE</a> is an example of a digital poster for the National Trust</p>
<h4>Task 1 – Analysing the National Trust Poster</h4>
<p>With a partner, discuss the answers to these questions;</p>
<ol>
<li>How many different pages are used?</li>
<li>What elements are consistent from page to page?  (colours, fonts, layout, logos etc.)</li>
<li>Are the pictures and text static or are they animated?</li>
<li>Are there any transitions between the pages?</li>
<li>Which software would you use to create a digital poster?</li>
</ol>
<h4>Task 2 – Creating your digital poster</h4>
<p>The business needs more customers. Produce a digital poster to be displayed in mainline stations, airports and the Underground. The digital poster must attract attention and persuade busy commuters to investigate a Time Machine experience.</p>
<p>The digital poster must:</p>
<ul>
<li>consist of three screens that scroll automatically</li>
<li>attract the attention of busy people passing by</li>
<li>introduce the Time Machine company and its slogan (if you have one)</li>
<li>give details of a specific Time Machine experience</li>
<li>display the company logo and contact details on every screen</li>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Starter</strong>: Have a look at some of last year’s Animal Testing movies by <a href="http://myplace.uk.gdst/school/shr/Faculties/ICT/y08ICT/Lists/8Z%20%20Animal%20Testing%20Movies/AllItems.aspx" target="_blank">clicking <strong>here</strong></a>.  Click on the link for each person and find the paperclip icon – click on this to open the movie.</p>
<h4>TASK 1 &#8211; Selecting Images for your Animal Testing Movie</h4>
<p>Make sure that you have your <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>plan</strong></span>.  Select <strong>5 or 6 appropriate images</strong> from the <strong>8.3 Information Superhighway Image Library</strong> folder.  This folder can be found by following this path &#8211; <strong>S:\Pupils\Senior Pupils\ICT\Y08\Unit 8.3 Information Superhighway</strong>. </p>
<h4>TASK 2 &#8211; Movieplus &#8211; Importing Media (Images). </h4>
<p>Watch the video <span style="color:#ff0000;"><strong>IMPORTING MEDIA</strong></span> to get you started. </p>

<ul>
<li>Click on the <strong>START</strong> menu and launch <strong>Serif MoviePlus</strong>.</li>
<li>Start a <strong>NEW Project</strong></li>
<li>Click on <strong>Add Media</strong> on the right hand side and then click on <strong>Import</strong></li>
<li><strong>Navigate</strong> to the <strong>Shared drive</strong> and <strong>Images</strong>.</li>
<li>Now <strong>select FIVE pictures</strong> which you are going to use in your movie</li>
</ul>
<p>Drag a <strong>thumbnail</strong> from the <strong>Media</strong> pane (on the <strong>right</strong>) to the <strong>Timeline</strong> <strong>Video</strong> <strong>Track</strong> (at the <strong>bottom</strong>).  The clip is displayed in the <strong>Timeline</strong> and the <strong>Video</strong> <strong>Preview</strong> pane (<strong>middle</strong> of the screen).  You can drag <strong>multiple clips</strong> to the Timeline.   If the project settings don’t match the clip settings you will be asked if you want to update the project settings.  Just click <strong>YES</strong>. </p>
<h4>TASK 3 Saving your movie. </h4>
<p>From the <strong>File</strong> menu choose <strong>Save As</strong>…  Navigate to your <strong>8.3 Information Superhighway</strong> folder.  Call your movie <strong>Animal Testing YOUR NAME</strong>.  Click on <strong>Save</strong>. </p>
<h4>TASK 4 – Adding Transitions</h4>
<p>If you drag <strong>multiple clips</strong> to the <strong>Timeline</strong> then MoviePlus <strong>overlaps</strong> each clip by <strong>1 second</strong>.  You can <strong>change</strong> the <strong>duration</strong> of this <strong>overlap</strong> by using the <strong>Overlap Contol</strong>. Where one clip meets another the point where they meet is called a <strong>transition</strong>.  This transition is called the <strong>Cross Fade</strong>. </p>
<p>To <strong>change the transition</strong> – first <strong>select</strong> the <strong>transition</strong> on the <strong>Timeline clip</strong> and then <strong>select</strong> the <strong>Transition Gallery</strong>, and finally choose the <strong>Transition</strong> you want (e.g.  3D Blinds) and click on <strong>OK</strong>. </p>
<p>You can apply a transition to the <strong>start</strong> and <strong>end</strong> of a clip by dragging the <strong>transition control</strong>. </p>
<p><strong>EXTENSION</strong></p>
<p>You can <strong>fine tune</strong> your <strong>transitions</strong> by <strong>selecting</strong> the transition and the clicking on the <strong>Properties</strong> pane (on the right).  e.g. You can change the Duration, Direction and number of blinds in the 3D Blinds).  Experiment!</p>

<h4>TASK 5 Captions and Titles</h4>
<p>To add a <strong>caption.  S</strong>elect the <strong>clip</strong> and add a <strong>title</strong> to the <strong>Properties</strong> pane.  Select the all of your clips and click the <strong>Text</strong> button on the <strong>Video</strong> <strong>Preview</strong> pane.   To format the text <strong>select</strong> the <strong>text clips</strong> on the <strong>Timeline</strong> and in th e <strong>Properties</strong> pane click to apply a new <strong>Format</strong> and <strong>Size</strong>.  You can <strong>reposition</strong> the text by moving the <strong>guides</strong> and then moving the text to <strong>align </strong>with them.   </p>
<p>To add a <strong>Title</strong>, drag the <strong>Time Indicator</strong> to the start of the <strong>Timeline</strong>.  Make sure that <strong>Rippling</strong> is turned <strong>on</strong>.  Click on the <strong>Video Track Header</strong> and from the <strong>Insert</strong> menu choose <strong>CG Clip</strong> and then <strong>Text</strong>. </p>
<p>To add a <strong>background image</strong>.  Click on the <strong>Add Image</strong> button and <strong>browse</strong> to the image you want.  <strong>Click and drag</strong> on the <strong>Video</strong> pane to set the image <strong>size</strong>.   To send the image <strong>behind</strong> the text click on <strong>Move Back</strong> on the <strong>Properties</strong> pane. </p>
<p>To add <strong>pre-set titles and credits</strong>, click on the <strong>Galleries</strong> pane and then <strong>Titles</strong> and choose the one you want.  e.g. <strong>Round Speech Bubble</strong>.  Drag and drop to the <strong>end</strong> of your <strong>Video Time line</strong>. </p>

<h4>TASK 6 Adding an Audio Track</h4>
<p><strong>Import</strong> a <strong>music track</strong> into MoviePlus.  On the <strong>Media </strong>pane click on <strong>Import</strong> <strong>Media</strong> and then <strong>Import</strong>.  Navigate to the <strong>Media</strong> drive, choose your music and click <strong>Open</strong>.  <strong>Music</strong> can be found in the <strong>Media Drive/Audio/General Access/Audacity or Backtracks.  </strong>To <strong>add</strong> the music to your movie <strong>drag</strong> it to the <strong>Music</strong> track. </p>
<p><strong>EXTENSION</strong></p>
<p>If you have a <strong>microphone</strong> attached to your computer then you can record  <strong>narration</strong> to your movie.  Click on the <strong>Narration</strong> button and then click <strong>record</strong>. </p>

<p><strong>Watch</strong> your buddies movie.  On the back of their <strong>8.3 Information Superhighway</strong> marking criteria sheet tell your buddy <strong>TWO</strong> things that you like about their movie.  Now be a critical friend and tell them <strong>ONE</strong> thing that you would like them to do to improve their work.</p>
