Task 1 – Creating your company stationery

• Create some headed paper – this should include your logo and Time Machine’s contact details (you can make these up) and maybe a border around the page.  
• Create a compliment slip – a compliment slip is sometimes sent attached to a company brochure.  It should contain the logo, contact details and the words “with compliments”.  You should be able to fit about 3 compliment slips horizontally on an A4 page.  There should be a PagePlus template to help you with this.
• Create some business cards – these should be for a particular individual in the company.  Again you can make up a name and a position (or use your name).  Include the logo, contact details and the name and position (Managing Director etc) of the employee.  There should be a business card template in PagePlus to help you with this.

Task 2: Printing your company stationery

I will give you extra print credits so you can print these off in colour but they are not unlimited so make sure you check print preview before you print.

Please write your name on the back of your work and put it in your folder.

Extenstion: Creating personal stationery

Using one of the templates, create your own personal stationary;

• business cards – so you can easily share your address details with friends
• compliment slips – perhaps you could attach these to work you hand in?
• letterhead – if you need to write a letter

• How far have you travelled? 
• How many times a year do you visit the New Forest? 
• How did you get here? 
• What incentive can we offer that would persuade you to leave your car at home? 

(e) Most of the people surveyed used their car to travel to the New Forest.  They were asked what incentive would persuade them to leave their car at home on their next visit to the New Forest.  The choices were: 

• discounts on cycle hire  (CYCLE)
• vouchers for food and drink  (FOOD & DRINK VOUCHERS)
• reduced admission to attractions  (REDUCED ADMISSION)
• free transport from bus/railway stations to their holiday accommodation. (FREE TRANSPORT).

TASK 1 – Collecting printed information

Visit your chosen venue and collect some printed information about the venue and its presentations.  This could be in the form of a brochure, a leaflet, a newsletter or a flyer.  The more information the better.

TASK 2 Developing Text for your poster. (Verity)

Open Word and type in the title “Developing Text for the Poster“.  Add your NAME to the header.  Save this document into your Key Skills level 2 / Activity 2 folder.  Type in two subtitles – BEFORE and AFTER.  Beneath the BEFORE subtitle copy some appropriate text about your venue or event from the internet.  Copy in the URL to acknowledge copyright of this material.  Beneath the AFTER subtitle reword the original text you found.  Use the thesaurus to help you to apply new adjectives and adverbs.  THIS TEXT MUST APPEAR ON YOUR FINAL POSTER!!!

TASK 3 Creating the DRAFT version of your POSTER.

Open Publisher or if you prefer it PagePlus.  You need a ONE page A4 portrait or landscape document.  Add your name to the footer.  Save this document as DRAFT POSTER into your Activity 2 Poster folder.  This should be in your Key Skills Level 2 Folder. 

The following elements need to appear on your DRAFT POSTER.

• Undeveloped image – the original found on the internet. 
• Undeveloped text – the original found on the internet. 
• Name of VENUE. 
• Location (address) of venue.

TASK 4 Purposeful Use of Email. 

(Ellie, Emma, Verity, Jodie, Beth, Katie, Lucy, Fran, Raphie, Olivia M, Esme, Clarice, Milly and Olivia M). 

Open Word.  Type in the title “Purposeful Use of Email“.  Add your name to the header.  Save this document into your Activity 2 POSTER folder. 

Create an email.  Subject =  ”My Draft Poster“.  Attach your draft version of your poster.  Send to = Ask at least one, but preferably two, members of your class to suggest improvements for your poster.  BEFORE YOU SEND YOUR EMAIL, take a screenshot of its content. 

Paste this “SENT” email into your word document.  DO NOT REDUCE ITS SIZE because I need to read all of the elements!  Below the screenshot, comment on the purpose and content of the email. 

When you receive an email from a classmate please make at least one sensible suggestion to improve their work and try to reply promptly.  e.g. Use photoshot to enhance your venue logo.  OR Try to reword your blurb about your event to make it sound move interesting. 

When you receive your reply(ies), take a screenshot and paste it into your word document.  Again comment on the content of the reply(ies).  You on can comment on wether or not you plan to use the suggestion! 

TASK 5 Creating the FINAL version of your POSTER. 

Open Publisher or if you prefer it PagePlus.  You need a ONE page A4 portrait or landscape document.  Add your name to the footer.  Save this document as FINAL POSTER into your Activity 2 Poster folder.  This should be in your Key Skills Level 2 Folder.

TASK 1 Finishing your Digital Poster

Your digital poster should contain:

• at least 3 frames / slides. 
• at least 2 “experiences” advertised.

On every slide the following information should appear -

• Company name
• Logo
• Slogan
• Web address / URL – www.timemachine.co.uk 
• Email – enquires@timemachine.co.uk

Yoy will need an appropriate image and some brief text to promote each of your chosen “experiences”. 

TASK 2 Setting your Digital Poster up as a Kiosk Presentation. 

From the Slide Show menu choose Set Up Slide Show.  Tick the “Loop continuously until Esc” option and then click OK. 

Make sure that you rehearse your timings!!!  From the Slide Show menu, choose Rehearse Timings.  Read quietly and slowly through the text on each slide, manually using the mouse to move forward through your presentation.  Click on the X to stop recording.  A dialogu box will appear .  If you are happy with your recording click on YES, otherwise click on NO and rerecord your show. 

TASK 3 Print Handouts of your Digital Poster. 

Ensure that your NAME is in the FOOTER of Notes and Handouts.  From the Insert menu choose Header and Footer.  Click on Notes and Handouts.  Tick the Footer and type in your NAME. 

From the File menu choose Print.  Make sure that you print Handouts to the KC2mono printer.  CHANGE from Full Page Slides to Handouts – 3 Slides or 4 Slides. 

TASK 4 Saving your Digital Poster for marking. 

From the File menu choose Save As… and navigate to the General area.  Here is the path – S:\General\ICT\Year 9\9X 2011 2012\9X TIME MACHINE\9X TIME MACHINE DIGITAL POSTER. Save your work into the 9X Time Machine Digital Poster folder.

Creating digital posters for Time Machine

Task 1 – Analysing the National Trust Poster

With a partner, discuss the answers to these questions;

1. How many different pages are used?
2. What elements are consistent from page to page?  (colours, fonts, layout, logos etc.)
3. Are the pictures and text static or are they animated?
4. Are there any transitions between the pages?
5. Which software would you use to create a digital poster?

Task 2 – Creating your digital poster

The business needs more customers. Produce a digital poster to be displayed in mainline stations, airports and the Underground. The digital poster must attract attention and persuade busy commuters to investigate a Time Machine experience.

The digital poster must:

• consist of three screens that scroll automatically
• attract the attention of busy people passing by
• introduce the Time Machine company and its slogan (if you have one)
• give details of a specific Time Machine experience
• display the company logo and contact details on every screen

TASK 1 – Selecting Images for your Animal Testing Movie

Make sure that you have your plan.  Select 5 or 6 appropriate images from the 8.3 Information Superhighway Image Library folder.  This folder can be found by following this path – S:\Pupils\Senior Pupils\ICT\Y08\Unit 8.3 Information Superhighway. 

TASK 2 – Movieplus – Importing Media (Images).

• Click on the START menu and launch Serif MoviePlus.
• Start a NEW Project
• Click on Add Media on the right hand side and then click on Import
• Navigate to the Shared drive and Images.
• Now select FIVE pictures which you are going to use in your movie

Drag a thumbnail from the Media pane (on the right) to the Timeline Video Track (at the bottom).  The clip is displayed in the Timeline and the Video Preview pane (middle of the screen).  You can drag multiple clips to the Timeline.   If the project settings don’t match the clip settings you will be asked if you want to update the project settings.  Just click YES. 

TASK 3 Saving your movie. 

From the File menu choose Save As…  Navigate to your 8.3 Information Superhighway folder.  Call your movie Animal Testing YOUR NAME.  Click on Save. 

TASK 4 – Adding Transitions

If you drag multiple clips to the Timeline then MoviePlus overlaps each clip by 1 second.  You can change the duration of this overlap by using the Overlap Contol. Where one clip meets another the point where they meet is called a transition.  This transition is called the Cross Fade. 

To change the transition – first select the transition on the Timeline clip and then select the Transition Gallery, and finally choose the Transition you want (e.g.  3D Blinds) and click on OK. 

You can apply a transition to the start and end of a clip by dragging the transition control. 

EXTENSION

You can fine tune your transitions by selecting the transition and the clicking on the Properties pane (on the right).  e.g. You can change the Duration, Direction and number of blinds in the 3D Blinds).  Experiment!

TASK 5 Captions and Titles

To add a caption.  Select the clip and add a title to the Properties pane.  Select the all of your clips and click the Text button on the Video Preview pane.   To format the text select the text clips on the Timeline and in th e Properties pane click to apply a new Format and Size.  You can reposition the text by moving the guides and then moving the text to align with them.   

To add a Title, drag the Time Indicator to the start of the Timeline.  Make sure that Rippling is turned on.  Click on the Video Track Header and from the Insert menu choose CG Clip and then Text. 

To add a background image.  Click on the Add Image button and browse to the image you want.  Click and drag on the Video pane to set the image size.   To send the image behind the text click on Move Back on the Properties pane. 

To add pre-set titles and credits, click on the Galleries pane and then Titles and choose the one you want.  e.g. Round Speech Bubble.  Drag and drop to the end of your Video Time line.

TASK 6 Adding an Audio Track

Import a music track into MoviePlus.  On the Media pane click on Import Media and then Import.  Navigate to the Media drive, choose your music and click Open.  Music can be found in the Media Drive/Audio/General Access/Audacity or Backtracks.  To add the music to your movie drag it to the Music track. 

EXTENSION

If you have a microphone attached to your computer then you can record  narration to your movie.  Click on the Narration button and then click record.
