<p>7.3 Endangered Animals Lesson 2</p>
<p>RECAP: What did we discover last lesson?</p>
<p>Task 1 You have been asked to plan the layout of the cover of a leaflet for a charity organisation called PEAT (Protecting Endangered Animals Together).</p>
<p>S:\Pupils\Senior Pupils\ICT\Y07\Unit 7.3 Endangered Animals\Lesson_2</p>
<p>On the worksheet, look at the example and then turn over the page and design the front and back covers for your leaflet making sure that you include all of the required elements.</p>
<p>Task 2 When you have finished your plans, swap them with a partner and go through the checklist of elements that are required. Tick them off to check if your partner has planned everything they should have.</p>
<p>Task 3 Open MS Publisher and then in groups of about 4, show each other publisher techniques and tricks that you know that others might not. Pick the best one you have come up with as a group that you can share with the class.</p>
<p>Task 4 Using your plan, begin to create your leaflet in publisher Summary: Share ideas about what we found out.</p>

<p>Find your favourite band’s official website.  On your white boards jot down the following information;</p>

<li>The band’s <strong>last gig</strong></li>
<li>The <strong>name</strong> of their <strong>latest CD</strong>. </li>
</ul>
<p>The first person to bring me this information will receive a house point. </p>
<h4>Task 1 Planning the Structure of your Favourite Band’s Website. </h4>
<p>The band wants the site to have a homepage and at least four more pages. </p>
<ol>
<li>Watch the <strong>Structure</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Layout</strong> presentation (Reso2c) (1-8). </li>
<li>On your copy of the <strong>Structure Planning</strong> (Reso2b) worksheet, plan how the structure of your own band’s website.  Create a <strong>site map</strong> – each <strong>box</strong> represents a <strong>web</strong> <strong>page</strong>.  Write in each box what the <strong>main</strong> <strong>topic</strong> for that page will be, and a <strong>note</strong> about its <strong>content</strong>.  (e.g. TOPIC – News and Reviews, NOTES – This page will have news  and articles and reviews of gigs.  It will also have a photo of the band). </li>
<li>Add links to show how visitors will navigate around your site.  Each page in the site needs to link to the homepage.  Do this by adding lines between the pages.  You can also add links between pages in the site. </li>

<p>A good website usually has the same layout on every page of the site.  This makes it easier to navigate around the site.  Most sites have a title at the top and a menu on the left. </p>

<li>On your copy of the <strong>Layout Sketch</strong> (Reso2d) worksheet, sketch a draft <strong>page layout</strong> for your website in the browser window.  <strong>Label</strong> your diagram to show where each element will be.  <strong>REMEMBER</strong>, this layout is going to be the <strong>same</strong> on ALL your web pages.  You should include at least the following elements in your design:</li>
</ol>
<ul>
<li><strong>Band name</strong> and / or <strong>band logo</strong></li>
<li><strong>Navigation buttons</strong> (hyperlinks)</li>

<h4><span style="color:#000080;">Task 1 – Beginning your implementation</span></h4>
<p>As you have completed the majority your design work you can now begin to actually create your spreadsheet.</p>
<p>Keep an implementation log (like a diary) which shows the different stages of your implementation and explains the skills you have used.  You will need to use MS Word or Publisher to complete your implementation log.</p>

<ol>
<li>Your implementation will be marked out of 45, however, if you only produce one final printout (even if it is perfect!) you will be severely limiting your potential marks.  Therefore, you need to provide evidence at different stages of your spreadsheet’s development.</li>
<li>It is likely that your design may not be perfect.   This is not a problem but in your implementation log you should explain why your actual spreadsheet differs from your design.</li>
<li>Look for opportunities to show off your spreadsheet skills, also highlight where you have used the software efficiently (copying and pasting, using the fill handle, formatting a range of cells at the same time etc.)</li>
<li>Don&#8217;t repeat yourself.  Once you have shown a technique in detail you don&#8217;t have to cover it again.  Simply say, &#8220;I inserted the logo in the same way as before&#8221;.</li>
<li>You should also include things that don’t work and what you did to fix them.</li>
<li>Your log doesn&#8217;t have to be long, just detailed.</li>

<p>RECAP: What did we discover last lesson?</p>
<p>Task 1 You have been asked to plan the layout of the cover of a leaflet for a charity organisation called PEAT (Protecting Endangered Animals Together).</p>
<p>S:\Pupils\Senior Pupils\ICT\Y07\Unit 7.3 Endangered Animals\Lesson_2</p>
<p>On the worksheet, look at the example and then turn over the page and design the front and back covers for your leaflet making sure that you include all of the required elements.</p>
<p>Task 2 When you have finished your plans, swap them with a partner and go through the checklist of elements that are required. Tick them off to check if your partner has planned everything they should have.</p>
<p>Task 3 Open MS Publisher and then in groups of about 4, show each other publisher techniques and tricks that you know that others might not. Pick the best one you have come up with as a group that you can share with the class.</p>
<p>Task 4 Using your plan, begin to create your leaflet in publisher Summary: Share ideas about what we found out.</p>

<p>The manager has some what-if questions which she would like answering.  You need to answer these questions in a word document and add screenshots from your financial model.</p>
<p>Firstly, in your word document, enter the profit/loss figure before you make any changes.</p>
<p><strong>Question 1: Would we make more profit if we sold Queue-jumpers at half-price, but increased Season tickets to £130 each?</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Enter the answer to this question in your word document and take a screenshot of your model with the changes.  Now change the figures back to where they were before (undo twice).</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Question 2: The Met Office is predicting really bad weather in August.  What will happen to our profit if we only sell half as many tickets in that month?</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Change the relevant variables in your spreadsheet, compare the profit/loss figure with the original and take a screenshot.  Don’t change the model back this time.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Question 3: If that happens, will it help us to open the park in October, assuming that we sell the same amount of tickets as in April?</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>You need to add in figures for October by copying and pasting the figures from April.  Remember to alter your formulae to cater for the October figures.   When you have done this, answer the question in word and take a screenshot.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Question 4: If we run a TV advertising campaign, we think we can sell twice as many tickets.  However, it will cost £250,000.  Is it worth doing?</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>You will need to do two things here.  Add the new cost to your total costs and double the total ticket sales.  Can you think of an easy way to do this using a formula?</li>

<p>You are going to create a website to be hosted on the portal. Your first task is to create a homepage. You will begin this today and have finished it by the end of next week hopefully. You will need to include the following:</p>

<li>Photograph of yourself  (bring in on a memory stick or email)</li>
<li>Introduction to yourself</li>
<li>Include your hobbies, clubs, what you&#8217;re good at, your favourite lessons&#8230;</li>
<li>Add links to any favourite bands, sports or other websites that you recommend</li>
<li>You will be adding links to other pages that you are going to create, including a Christmas-themed one!</li>
</ul>
<p>It is important to think carefully about the layout that you use, consistent formatting, readable text&#8230;all the things that we have discussed in previous lessons.</p>
<p>Your target audience is teenagers, teachers, parents and younger children. Make sure that your site is suitable for a varied audience.</p>
